Correspondence, diary, and plantation journal, 1856-1861, for Home Plantation, Darlington, S.C., (R 1069-c) re crop production, plantation expenses, plantation labor, and listing of slaves identified by name and labor performed; receipts; family correspondence; and business correspondence re aid and relief for families of Civil War soldiers. Including entry, 4 Oct. 1856, listing slaves identified by name and amounts of corn harvested from "the Johnson field;" entry, 18 Jan.-24 June 1859, recording blacksmith work performed by an identified male slave; annual assessment, 1859, listing weather conditions, slaves owned including names, ages, illnesses, and death dates. Also including transcribed copy of diary, [1846], re Caleb Coker's tour to Niagara Falls, N.Y.; letter, 13 May 1864, from A.E. Coker, to his brother Caleb Coker, re rising costs, purchasing supplies, their brother Lewis Coker, and destruction caused by war; letter, 11 June 1864, from George W. Winburn, to Caleb Coker, re creating a will for Winburn in case of his death during the war. Letter, 4 July 1864, from J[ames] R[eid] Boylston, Charleston, S.C., to Caleb Coker, re creating a Civil War relief association in Charleston, S.C., identifying families of slain soldiers, and procuring supplies; circular, 23 Dec. 1864, "Act to provide for the relief of the families of the soldiers, sailors, and marines in the service of this State or the Confederate States."
